APC national chairman, John Oyegun reacts to arrest of Uche Secondus

APC national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun
speaking at a meeting with party members.
the APC chieftain stressed that it was not
targeted at any particular person but at
corrupt people.
John Odigie-Oyegun, the national chairman of
the All Progressives Congress (APC), has
reacted to the arrest of Uche Secondus, the
deputy national chairman of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP), by the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission.
Briefing journalists on Friday, February 26, in
Abuja, Oyegun wondered: "Well, from whom
did the PDP deputy national chairman, Uche
Secondus collect the gift?"
"Was it from a corporate entity or from an
individual? If it's from the government coffers,
it's public funds. If a corporate entity decides
to support a party or an individual that is
corporate, that is private that is totally the
individual's decisions subject of course to the
limit in the constitution and what the Electoral
Act provides. I think is that straight forward."
Commenting on the anti-corruption campaign
of President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC
chieftain stressed that it was not targeted at
any particular person but at corrupt people.

"Look, I don't know how often we will repeat
this, we have a major problem with corruption,
it is what has crippled this nation and if you
are cutting down a tree, wherever its falls so
be it. If he happens to be a participant so be
it, the colour, the party, ethnic group or
whatever it is, you can see just does not
matter anymore," he said.
Describing Buhari's government as
progressive and actively anti-corruption,
Oyegun noted:
"So if the results are the way they are, I mean,
did you expect anything different, I don't know
unless somebody is wiser here and we will
like to share from your wisdom because it
could improve the way that we do things.
"If we are investigating corruption, where else
except those who have participated in
government and in the process, eh I don't
know, please enlighten me if there is another
way to look at it and then we will go and give
it a thought."
Secondus was arrested on Thursday,
February 25, for illegally receiving 23 luxury
vehicles from Jide Omokorre, the chairman of
Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Nigeria
Limited.
In a swift reaction, the PDP issued a
statement, in which it described the arrest as
another example of oppressive and unfair
treatment against its key leaders by the
federal government.
